A working artist, I've lived in the Portland, OR area for many years, a diverse creative place that has been part of this unfolding life/artistic journey of mine.
As a multi-faceted artist - drawing, painting and creating collage/assemblages, my work organically flows between these 3.
I explore combining elements and mediums together as I interpret and translate a symbolic artistic & spiritual language into narratives of exploration.
My work flows from a passion for COLOR interwoven with the theme of mysteries of time and space and the intrigue, complexity and tension of the human experience. I combine mixed-media elements of imperfect collage, painting, drawing and assemblage together utilizing select new/contemporary & vintage/antique pieces to creative a narrative exploring a deeper raw symbolic/spiritual language.
My paintings range from very large to petite jewel sizes.
My artistic journey started at age 7 when I won 2nd prize in a local store coloring contest. At age 15 after a major move & transition in my large family, I went to live with a good friend whose mother was an amazing, bold, strong woman and a painter. I was allowed to observe her friends painting evenings sitting curled up in a window seat. Intrigued by the entire conversations and the creative process, I too began creating.
My first strong connection to the work of Louise Nevelson & Robert Rauschenberg at my local museum as well as being exposed to outsider art at a local gallery were pivotal moments.
My painting techniques and scale were initially influenced by studying the work of Helen Frankenthaler as well as experiencing massive paintings by artist Lucinda Parker in a public space.
Continual exposure to local and global artists and purposeful exploration continue to guide my practice.
I have lots of new work I'm excited to share with you over the next several months.
